Types of Hepatitis

Some types of hepatitis are caused by viruses. The most common viruses are named for the first three letters of the alphabet, A, B and C. These viruses each cause a different type of infection with different symptoms and duration of illness.
Autoimmune Hepatitis
Autoimmune Hepatitis is a disease of the liver caused by the body's immune system. This is a type of hepatitis not caused by viruses and is not contagious.
Drug-Induced Hepatitis
The liver is responsible for filtering the blood of toxins, such as digested drugs. Even though these drugs may be helpful or necessary, sometimes they can damage the liver and cause hepatitis.
Alcoholic Hepatitis
Too much alcohol, such as wine, beer and liquor, can cause liver damage called alcoholic hepatitis. This disease is usually reversible if treated early.
What Is Hepatitis E?
Hepatitis E is one of five hepatotrophic viruses that causes acute viral hepatitis. As a disease it is self-limited, causes acute gastrointestinal illness, and is spread by the fecal-oral route. It's very similar to hepatitis A in how it is spread, but similar to all acute viral hepatitis infection in symptoms.
