Definition: This stands for Hepatitis B core Antibody. Your body's immune system produces this antibody in response to a protein in the hepatitis B virus called the hepatitis B core antigen (HBcAg). A positive HBcAb test can mean you have an acute or a past hepatitis B infection. To determine which stage you're in, doctors must test for additional antibodies or antigens in your blood.
Also Known As: anti-HBc
