Should You Be Concerned About Liver Cancer?

Tuesday August 26, 2008
Chronic hepatitis can lead to serious complications, one of which is liver cancer. It's a big problem worldwide and is one of the top ten types of cancer in the United States. Because of this, I think it's important for people with hepatitis to understand what liver cancer is and who is at risk.

The most important risk factor is someone with chronic hepatitis B or hepatitis C infection. Unfortunately, these two chronic infections also lead to cirrhosis, which is another major risk factor for liver cancer: about 5 % of people with cirrhosis will develop liver cancer. The other risk factors are being male, having a family history of liver cancer and being over 60 years old. All of these increase the chances of developing this serious complication.

If you have one of these risk factors, you should learn about liver cancer and how to prevent the various types. To learn more, check out my new article about liver cancer.
