Can grapefruits prevent Hepatitis C infection?
According to scientists from the prestigious Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), a chemical in grapefruits called naringin has the potential to disrupt the secretion of hepatitis C virus from infected cells. The idea is that this chemical, in the form of a supplement called naringenin, could be combined with conventional antiviral regimen and lead to an effective therapy for reducing the virus for people infected with hepatitis C.
It's interesting stuff, but unfortunately, this research is still a long way from being used in practice. For one thing, it's not even in human trials, but it seems promising. Read more about this exciting study from the MGH news release.
