Following the Stars

Wednesday November 28, 2007
Some people follow the stars to predict their futures (any psychics out there?) and others just follow the gossip (tabloids anyone?) but I think some celebrities are on to something great. The American Liver Foundation, America's premier organization to fight liver disease is encouraging famous people to talk about their hepatitis infection. Stars

I think this is a great idea. People sometimes fear the disease because they don't know enough about it. Hearing celebrities talk about their experiences will do a lot to increase awareness in the general public. Now I'm not suggesting everyone with hepatitis should buy airtime on the local radio station and tell the world, but I think we can learn a lot from this.

It feels good to talk about things important to us and if you are living with hepatitis, that's a big part of your life. What I am suggesting is that we take advantage of hepatitis support groups. These are made up of people who need and can give support. Look for a group near you!

I almost forgot. If you're interested, here's a list of celebrities who speak openly about their hepatitis diagnosis.
